Stroll in the footsteps of bride and bridegroom, of emperor and nobel ladies, of high social class and ordinary folk. Thanks to the very detailed chronology you are able to feel the spirits of these times at their original places.

We are turning the times back for you!

(5) In the times of Baroque and Rokoko

Love for their hometown and the desire to make it more beautiful did not come to a stop for Landshut`s citizens in the 17th and 18th century. Many a Gothic bourgeois mansion changed its outer appearance and many a noble palace had been built. Above all the monasteries and convents of the town competed by changing their churches into buildings of invaluable treasures. Johann Baptist Zimmermann, one of the great stucco workers and painters of the Bavarian Rococo not only changed the style of the convent`s church of the Cisterciense nuns of Seligenthal, he also created out of the Gothic Dominican church St. Blasius a churchhall of incomparable elegance. He led the renovation, made the design for the stucco works and painted the ceiling fresco on his own.
Due to his commitment the Landshut Dominican Church is among the most magnificent creations of the Bavarian Rococo. After many years of extensive restaurations this jewel is now open to the public and cultur- and art-loving visitors can admire its splendour in guided tours only.
Please come with us - we would like to open the gates for you!

Does the word "Romanticism" not only generate a certain "feeling" but does it also stimulate your thirst for knowledge for this revolutionary epoch which was especially style-forming for Landshut?
The Ludwig-Maximilian-University Landshut (1800-1826) boasts of famous professors. To their circle of acquaintances belonged well known poets, philosophers and young academics, who caused a sensation.
